Melanie Hatter is a licensed massage therapist – certified by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards and the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination – as well as a Reiki II practitioner. She attended the Northern Virginia School of Therapeutic Massage in Falls Church, Va. She spent four years serving clients with individualized therapeutic massage at Renew Therapeutic Massage Center in Rockville, Md.
Melanie came to massage after 12 years in corporate communications when she decided to pursue a different career path. Inspiration came from author and former syndicated columnist Donna Britt who also teaches yoga. Sitting in her class one Saturday morning, Melanie thought yoga seemed like a great balance between a physical activity and writing. She reflected on what would fit her path. While she loves yoga, she didn’t see herself as a teacher. As an occasional recipient of massage, she began to consider that as an option. Melanie had always thought it would be such a great way to help people.
She discovered that she loves giving massage. It’s an activity that places her firmly in the moment, completely immersed in erasing stress or easing discomfort in the person on the table. Watching the body relax, the muscles soften and, sometimes, hearing the person’s snore – the ultimate compliment that her hands are bringing complete relaxation to another – brings her joy.
Melanie is also a published author. Visit www.melanieshatter.com for more about her writing career.
